Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerill (Review #219)

“Seventeen-year-old Britta Flannery is at ease only in the woods with her dagger and bow. She spends her days tracking criminals alongside her father, a legendary bounty hunter—that is, until her father is murdered. The alleged killer is none other than Cohen Mackay, her father’s former apprentice. The only friend she’s ever known. The boy she once loved who broke her heart.   She must go on a treacherous quest in a world of warring kingdoms, mad kings, and dark magic to find the real killer. But Britta wields more power than she knows. And soon she will learn what has always made her different will make her a daunting and dangerous force.”

Review:
This was an enjoyable read. For the most part, I enjoyed the friends-to-lovers-to-enemies-to-friends-to-lovers storyline. The relationship between Brit and Cohen was the center of this entire book. Was it the best romance I've ever read? Absolutely not, but that might just be because friends-to-lovers is not my favorite trope.

Here's the thing though, I have a few bones to pick. First off, the murder mystery moving our characters along, was so unoriginal. From the moment Brit is assigned the task of finding her father's killer, I knew who it was. Correctly guessing the murderer before the case has even started takes a bit of fun and surprise out of it! I mean we're racing across enemy borders and fleeing from the king's guard who think that our MC is now a fugitive only to turn around and come back.

Secondly, for a main character that everyone else swears has major trust issues, she puts an awful lot of trust in a lot of people, for no reason other than because her gut told her to. And yes, does she have magical powers that can tell when someone's lying? Yes, but come on now, with one vague question comes a vaguely true reply and that means you can trust them? People with real trust issues would know better.

You know what really made this book for me? The end. The last hundred pages or so. We get lots of trauma, mixed with a satisfying climax, and the last chapter???? When the king comes to see Britt??? This just got so messyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! OOO I'm excited for the next one. Let's go!

As always let me know your own thought and feels down below in the comments, and I'll catch you on the next one!

Burn for Burn by Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian (Review #29)

"Lillia has never had any problems dealing with boys who like her. Not until this summer, when one went too far. No way will she let the same thing happen to her little sister. Kate is tired of the rumors, the insults, the cruel jokes. It all goes back to one person - her ex-best friend - and she's ready to make her pay. Four years ago, Mary left Jar Island because of a boy. But she's not the same girl anymore. And she's ready to prove it to him. Three very different girls who want the same thing: sweet, sweet revenge. And they won't stop until they've each had a taste." Review: This book was FAN-TAS-TIC!! I am not for the petty popular girl books, and this is definitely not one of those books. The revenge you wish you got on the person who double-crossed you is finally let loose In one of the best and most inventive ways, and the ending left me jaw-dropped. This is a book everyone should have on their shelf.

Wicked Saints by Emily A. Duncan (Review #143)

"A girl named Nadya, who hears the whispers of the gods inside her head. A prince surrounded by desperate suitors and deadly assassins. A monster hidden behind pale, tortured eyes - and a smile that cuts like a knife. The paths of these characters becomes entwined during a centuries-long war filled with sinners and saints, magic and mystery, and a star-crossed romance that threatens to tip the scales between dark and light forever." Review: This was one of the best reads I’ve had in a long while. It DEVASTATED ME. BUT IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE. Nadya and Serefin were both complicated, messy, yet divine characters. Neither were in the right or wrong but both knew the endgame. I loved every second of it. These characters never did what was expected of them and I loved there growth from beginning to end. And MALACHIASZ?????? I shipped it so hard. Every twist and turn had me hoping he and Nadya would set sail. Their dynamic was so intriguing to me. They were enemies of a hig
