Catwoman: Soulstealer by Sarah J. Maas (Review #151)

“Selina Kyle is a thief.

Two years after escaping Gotham City’s slums, Selina Kyle returns as the mysterious and wealthy Holly Vanderhees. She quickly discovers that with Batman away on a vital mission, Gotham City looks ripe for the taking.

Luke Fox is a hero.

Luke wants to prove that as Batwing he has what it takes to help people. He targets a new thief on the prowl who has teamed up with Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. Together, they are wreaking havoc. This Catwoman is clever - she may be Batwing’s undoing.

In Gotham City, not everyone is what they seem.

Selina is playing a desperate game of cat and mouse, forming unexpected friendships and entangling herself with Batwing by night and her devilishly handsome neighbor Luke Fox by day. But with a dangerous threat from the past on her tail, will she be able to pull off the heist that’s closest to her heart?”

Review:
Another knockout book. Omg. Look we BEEN knew Catwoman was a clever kitty but this take on her origin??? And when she said she was bringing Gotham to it’s knees she did not disappoint!

Wow, so much I want to talk about but can’t so lemme try. Selina was the woman to root for from beginning to end. She starts off as a teen just trying to take care of her sick sister in the slums of the East End. She joins a girl gang and fights in the ring for Falcone to make ends meet until a mysterious woman plucks her from behind the prison bars with the promise of saving her sister.

Essentially she sells her soul for her sister to have a better life. If that doesn’t make you wanna root for her idk what will. And now she’s on a mission back home in Gotham. Now what that mission is, you won’t know til the end, but it’ll rock you I promise.

And if you thought Miss Thang was doing this all on her lonesome YOU ARE MISTAKEN! Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn are here too! Ugh and we stan making Ivy gay and Harls bi, that was a power move right there.

And then Luke. What a guy. We read in his POV as well as Selina’s so it was interesting to see him get his ass handed to him as well as their little flirting as socialite neighbors. I’ll be honest though, he’s a goody-goody and that made him a bit boring, aside from his battle with PTSD. That was an interesting part of his character that separated him from Wayne in my eyes.

Overall, so amazing. I ate that book up!

But once Griffin's dad finds out that Cheyenne's father is the president of a powerful cooperation, everything changes - now there's a reason to keep her. How will Cheyenne survive this nightmare? She's not only sick - she's BLIND!" Review: This book was a lot better than I expected. It showed both points of view of the two main characters and the villain comes from an unexpected direction. I really loved stepping into the eyes of a blind person. Going through the struggles Cheyenne had to go through and all under extreme circumstance...

The Harpy by Megan Hunter (Review #245)

“Lucy Lives with her husband, Jake and their two boys. Her life is devoted to her children, her days, mapped out by their finally tune routine. Until a man calls one afternoon with a shattering message. His wife has been having an affair with Lucy’s husband. He thought she should know. Lucy is distraught. She decides to stay with Jake, if only for their children sake, but in order to even the score, they agreed that she will hurt him three times. Jake Will not know when the hurt is coming, or what form it will take. And so begins a delicate game of crime and punishment, from which there is no return…” Review: “Deeply unsettling” author Daisy Johnson said of this book, and honestly I think that’s the perfect description. For me though this wasn’t necessarily horror, and fantasy is a stretch at best, but let’s backtrack a bit. This story was about grief. Lucy is grieving and trying to heal from a monumental wound. She by no means is a pillar of a healthy psyche, but even in her worst mom...
