A Mad Zombie Party by Gena Showalter (Review #150)

Holy crap we’ve reached 150 posts! I honestly wasn’t sure I’d make it here but so glad I did. I hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoy writing!

WARNING: SPOILER ALERT: IF YOU HAVE NOT GOTTEN THIS FAR IN THE WHITE RABBIT CHRONICLES, STOP NOW. DO NOT READ. THIS IS BOOK 4. FOR THE REVIEWS OF PREVIOUS BOOKS, CHECK OUT ALICE IN ZOMBIELAND,  THROUGH THE ZOMBIE GLASS, AND QUEEN OF ZOMBIE HEARTS.

“The battle rages on.

Ali Bell and Cole Holland’s crew of zombie slayers thought they’d won the war against Anima Industries, the evil company responsible for capturing and experimenting on zombies in an effort to discover the secret to immortality. In the last epic clash, the slayers lost many of their crew and closest friends. But Frosty, the ice man himself, has not recovered from one casualty in particular - the love of his life, Kat Parker.

On the path to self-annihilation, Frosty received a message from beyond - Kay’s spirit returns, insisting he partner with rogue slayer Camilla Marks. Frosty will do anything for Kat. Except that. Camilla is the one who betrayed them all, leading to Kay’s death.

But when Anima rises from the grave to become a force the slayers may not have the strength to overcome, Frosty, Camilla and all the slayers will have to work together to survive. And one broken slayer will learn that sometimes, the line between hate and attraction is blurred... and the road to redemption isn’t through revenge, but in letting go of the past and grabbing hold of the future.”

Review:
Another blast from my past, the White Rabbit Chronicles. It was so nice to be back with the slayer gang, even thought we weren’t with Ali and Cole. I enjoyed Milla a lot more than I had anticipated. We get an in-depth look at her traumatic past, as well as the consequences of her actions after the last book. And it doesn’t get more intense than staring the most affected people in the face - i.e. Frosty.

I will say though, I had a few problems with this one. First, I felt like the relationship between Frosty and Milla dragged ass. We readers know their gonna get together. We know this already. SO HAVING IT FINALLY HAPPEN AT THE END OF THE BOOK WAS STUPID. STUPID! I wanted more. I wanted more personal development than that.

Second, Anima has been this huge unkillable force throughout the whole series. If the story ended at book 3, the climactic fight was a great end. But we have here book 4, and Anima REMAINS. In my opinion, the finale fight should’ve been legendary. Instead, we got big fight blue balls. The anticipations was there, but the follow through was sub-par.

Finally, the notes at the end I shouldn’t have read. There written 10 years in the future so you can see how everyone ended up and it spoils everything. I’d rather live in the last moment, leaving them immortally horny teens. But alas.

Overall it was nice to revisit a series from my past, but I think, unless you care about what happens to Frosty, it’s not worth the read, it ruins it.

Burn for Burn by Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian (Review #29)

"Lillia has never had any problems dealing with boys who like her. Not until this summer, when one went too far. No way will she let the same thing happen to her little sister. Kate is tired of the rumors, the insults, the cruel jokes. It all goes back to one person - her ex-best friend - and she's ready to make her pay. Four years ago, Mary left Jar Island because of a boy. But she's not the same girl anymore. And she's ready to prove it to him. Three very different girls who want the same thing: sweet, sweet revenge. And they won't stop until they've each had a taste." Review: This book was FAN-TAS-TIC!! I am not for the petty popular girl books, and this is definitely not one of those books. The revenge you wish you got on the person who double-crossed you is finally let loose In one of the best and most inventive ways, and the ending left me jaw-dropped. This is a book everyone should have on their shelf.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin (Review #20)

"Mara Dyer doesn't think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. It can. She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed. There is. She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love. She's wrong." Review: This is a book you simply have to read. It's probably a part of my top ten favorite books list. Mara is this girl who just lost her friends and boyfriend in a terrible, but also peculiar, accident and now people who tick her off - and who she's attracted to (cough-cough-Noah-cough-cough) - are in her powerful line of fire... It's a tantalizing tale that will have you (for a lack of a better cliche) gripping the edge of your seat!!

Antigoddess by Kendare Blake (Review #141)

"Old Gods never die.. or so Athena thought. But then the feathers started sprouting beneath her skin, invading her lungs like a strange cancer, and Hermes showed up with a fever eating away his flesh. So much for living a quiet eternity in perpetual health. Desperately seeking the cause of their slow, miserable deaths, Athena and Hermes travel the world, gathering allies and discovering enemies both new and old. Their search leads them to Cassandra - an ordinary girl who was once an extraordinary prophetess, protected and loved by a god. These days, Cassandra doesn't involve herself in the business of gods - in fact, she doesn't even know they exist. But she could be the key in a war that is only just beginning. Because Hera, the queen of the gods, has aligned herself with others of the ancient Olympians, who are killing off rivals in an attempt to prolong their own lives. But these antigods have become corrupted in their desperation to survive, horrific caric...
