WARNING: SPOILER ALERT: IF YOU HAVE NOT GOTTEN THIS FAR IN THE LUNAR CHRONICLES, STOP NOW. DO NOT READ. THIS IS BOOK 3. FOR THE REVIEW ON BOOK 1, CHECK OUT CINDER AND SCARLET FOR BOOK 2!
"Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they're plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.
Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who's only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she's just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.
When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a high price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has."
Review:
I sped through this, despite its gargantuan size. After reading Scarlet, I was more than a little eager to see what happened next. I was surprised how soon Cress was "saved" from her "castle". I thought this book would be more into the mind of Cress, but I guess it makes sense to jump right into the plot. I have to give mad props to Meyer for the various viewpoints from almost every character involved; it could not have been an easy feat. Anyway, I felt that I have related best with Cress so far, but despite this, I didn't really enjoy the book as much as I thought I would. Don't get me wrong, it was chock full of new twists, but I felt the main goal, defeating Levana, had taken a backseat to finding more people to join Cinder's little resistance. I think she needs to face the inevitable: The big stand-off. The Voldemort vs. Harry, Darth Vader vs. Luke Skywalker, the Joker vs. Batman, Cinder vs. Queen Levana.
