WARNING: SPOILER ALERT: IF YOU HAVE NOT GOTTEN THIS FAR IN THE ARCANA CHRONICLES, STOP NOW. DO NOT READ. THIS IS BOOK 2. FOR THE REVIEW OF BOOK 1, CHECK OUT POISON PRINCESS!
"Evie has fully come into her powers as the Tarot Empress, and Jack was there to see it all. She now knows that the teens who've been reincarnated as the Tarot are in the throes of an epic battle. It's kill or be killed, and the future of mankind hangs in the balance.
With threats lurking around every corner, Evie is forced to trust her newfound alliance. Together they must fight not only other Arcana, but also Bagmen zombies, post-apocalyptic storms, and cannibals.
When Evie meets Death, things get even more complicated. Though falling for Jack, she's drawn to the dangerous Endless Knight as well. Somehow the Empress and Death share a history - one that Evie can't remember, but Death can't forget..."
Review:
So the sequel of the Arcana Chronicles did not disappoint it bridged in the psychotic (cannibals, self-mutilation and erotic fantasies) but was wrought with intrigue beyond belief. The Arcana Cards continue to amaze and I'm absolutely enamored with the concept of "the Game". However, Death aka Aric, is a new love interest in young Evie's life and from other book responses I've read, everyone seems to be on team Death. BUT WHY?! Evie is not married to him, despite contrary belief made by Death. He seems to be under the impression that he is "owed" his wife. HOW ABOUT NO. I feel like Evie is going to succumb to his wishes out of pity!! And Jack is still madly in love with her!! He had secrets that he kept (and rightfully so, in my opinion) to protect Evie and being separated from her for an undocumented amount of time seems to be penance enough, Aric does not seem to love Evie the way she loves him, but seems to think of her as a possession that was stolen from him. The book ended with an enormous cliffhanger and I anxiously await the third installment. All I have to say is let the Game Begin...
