"A mysterious book that promises unlimited power and unrivaled sexual pleasure. A down-on-her-luck book dealer hoping for the sale of a lifetime. And a twist so shocking, no one will come out unscathed.
After a tragedy too painful to bear, former novelist Lily Albrecht has resigned herself to a dull, sexless life as a rare book dealer. Until she gets a lead on a book that just might turn everything around. The Book of the Most Precious Substance is a 17th century manual on sex magic, rumored to be the most powerful occult book ever written - if it really exists at all. And some of the wealthiest people in the world are willing to pay Lily a fortune to find it - if she can.
Her search for the book takes her from New York to New Orleans to Munich to Paris, searching the dark corners of power where the world’s wealthiest people use black magic to fulfill their desires. Will Lily fulfill her own desires, and join them? Or will she lose it all searching for a ghost?'
Review:What an absolutely sensational ride. It seems books on grief and how we deal with it keep making their way into my hands.
This was an adventure from beginning to end. This book felt unpredictable, and genre-less; it felt like anything was possible, or maybe nothing was. It was filled with tragedy and grief. The promise of a new and exciting life with fellow book enthusiast Lucas, and leaving behind the dark, sad, and lonely life with Abel, alive but still gone. Little does our girl Lily know the price she'll pay to get what she truly wants.

I really went into this blind. I had no idea really what the tone of this was going to be, and honestly, I kind of lived for it. There was basically a heist for this rare book; find it, buy it, and also use it to cast a magical spell to grant you whatever you wish for. It was also, obviously, smut. But this was smut with purpose. The point of this book wasn't the smut itself, and only partially a vessel in which to cast spells. It served as experiences our main character gets to know herself after the traumatic loss of the love her life to a debilitating illness. Though a part of her dies in her grief, a new version of herself, never fully realized until she lets herself. *Cue the Precious Substance*.

Yeah, this woman had a TIME!!! OOOOOO girly, good for herrrrr!!! After being a repressed, jealous prude for far too long, she let her freak flag fly BIG TIME! I will admit, at first, I was like don't betray your darling precious Abel!!! But I think that's a situation I can't really judge her for. And it made for a much more compelling story anyways. What was she gonna do, sit in the cuck chair while everyone else dabbled in magic? Absolutely not.
AND YOU KNOW WHAT IN THE END THESE MEN AIN'T SHIT!!!!!! I'll be honest, I knew exactly what her wish was gonna be from jump, but the twist at the end, and seeing her wish come true???? Truly diabolical shit. Sara Gran you really make winning feel like losing and I commend you for it. Damn! You got me, you really got me. Overall, a fun, exciting and somewhat spooky ride, I really enjoyed this.
