All of Us Villains by Amanda Foody & Christine Lynn Herman (Review #246)

The Blood Moon rises.

The Blood Veil falls.

The Tournament begins.

Every generation, the coming of the Blood Moon, seven families in the remote city of Ilvernath each name a champion to compete in a secret tournament to the death.

The prize? Exclusive control over a hidden wellspring of high magick, the most powerful resource in the world - one thought long depleted.

But this year, a scandalous tell-all book has exposed the tournament and thrust the seven new champions into the worldwide spotlight. The book also granted them valuable information previous champions never had - insight into the other families’ strategies and weaknesses. And most important, it gave them a choice: except their fate or rewrite their legacy.

Either way, this is a story that must be penned in blood.”

Review:

We back and betta than eva!!! Okay listen, I’m a busy gal! So this took me 2 months to read. But listen, I don’t think that should be a reflection of the book itself.

It was a slow, slow pace, I will say. I think maybe a third of the book was before the tournament itself and then once the tournament did start, everyone refused to make moves!!!! When they were like “it’s a week into the tournament” I was like EXCUSE ME????? NO ONE HAD DONE ANYTHING!!!!

Other than the pace, I was so invested in these characters, Alistair was by far my fav, but I was so down with how murky these kids morals were! The villains were winning me over!

Alistair was the monster under your bed in the best way, and I’m trying to coax him out going pspspspsps. Briony is desperate to break the curse, but is she doing it because she actually cares about them, or because she wants the glory of being the hero? Isobel I feel like is the tried-and-true hero at heart, but trauma and betrayal have turned her ice cold, maybe making her more ruthless than any her enemies or friends are prepared for. And then Gavin is trying so friggin hard to be the villain no one thinks he can be and honestly, it’s not really his shade; but a curse unlike all the rest are turning him into new shades and he may end up to be the most vicious of them all.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, but I wanted MOREEEE!!! The second book better bring all the smoke, cus we have a lot to get done! We got unfinished business and yall are taking too damn long!

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin (Review #20)

"Mara Dyer doesn't think life can get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. It can. She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her mysteriously unharmed. There is. She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love. She's wrong." Review: This is a book you simply have to read. It's probably a part of my top ten favorite books list. Mara is this girl who just lost her friends and boyfriend in a terrible, but also peculiar, accident and now people who tick her off - and who she's attracted to (cough-cough-Noah-cough-cough) - are in her powerful line of fire... It's a tantalizing tale that will have you (for a lack of a better cliche) gripping the edge of your seat!!

Antigoddess by Kendare Blake (Review #141)

"Old Gods never die.. or so Athena thought. But then the feathers started sprouting beneath her skin, invading her lungs like a strange cancer, and Hermes showed up with a fever eating away his flesh. So much for living a quiet eternity in perpetual health. Desperately seeking the cause of their slow, miserable deaths, Athena and Hermes travel the world, gathering allies and discovering enemies both new and old. Their search leads them to Cassandra - an ordinary girl who was once an extraordinary prophetess, protected and loved by a god. These days, Cassandra doesn't involve herself in the business of gods - in fact, she doesn't even know they exist. But she could be the key in a war that is only just beginning. Because Hera, the queen of the gods, has aligned herself with others of the ancient Olympians, who are killing off rivals in an attempt to prolong their own lives. But these antigods have become corrupted in their desperation to survive, horrific caric...

Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen (Review #34)

"Ever since her parents' divorce, Auden has been unable to sleep. She's built a routine that gets her through each night; but when the opportunity comes for her to spend her summer at the beach with her father and his new family, she jumps at the chance to break out of her rut. Life at the beach proves more challenging than Auden expects. In addition to trying to figure out how she fits in to her father's new life, she also has to navigate the girls at work with their gossip and friendship and crushes. And then there's Eli, a fellow insomniac who becomes her nocturnal tour guide. With an endless supply of long summer nights between them, almost anything can happen...." Review: I was a Sarah Dessen - virgin. This was my first time reading her work and it was inexhaustibly fantastic. I couldn't put it down. literally I stayed up all night reading this novel, maybe just how Dessen wanted me to. that is why I'm writing this at such an ungodly hour. Wh...
