Hidden deep in the mountains of Colorado lies the Inn at Havenfall, a sanctuary that connects ancient worlds—each with its own magic. For generations, the inn has protected all who seek refuge within its walls, and any who disrupt the peace can never return.
For Maddie Morrow, summers at the inn are more than a chance to experience this magic firsthand. Havenfall is an escape from reality, where her mother sits on death row accused of murdering Maddie's brother. It's where Maddie fell in love with handsome Fiorden soldier Brekken. And it's where one day she hopes to inherit the role of Innkeeper from her beloved uncle.
But this summer, the impossible happens—a dead body is found, shattering everything the inn stands for. With Brekken missing, her uncle gravely injured, and a dangerous creature on the loose, Maddie suddenly finds herself responsible for the safety of everyone in Havenfall. She'll do anything to uncover the truth, even if it means working together with an alluring new staffer, Taya, who seems to know more than she's letting on. As dark secrets are revealed about the inn itself, one thing becomes clear to Maddie—no one can be trusted, and no one is safe..."
Review:
After reading a long book that may or may not have been worth it, do you suffer from a book hangover? Let me recommend a nice short read that will cure you. Havenfall gives us everything we could ever hope for in this read. Maddie balancing a role she is ill prepared for as Innkeeper with a monster on the loose and a whole lot of politics that could quite literally rock the entire Inn. The only people she trusts are not here to save her, while new faces come to her aid, but they are not all that they seem.
First and foremost we love LGBT representation! Every time I find it where I wasn't expecting it, it makes my heart happy. We've got our main character Maddie, Brekken, Taya, Graylin, Willow, and the Silver Prince. We've got a murder mystery also, which I was also excited to learn more about, and it was just such a pleasant read. All Maddie ever wanted was to become the Innkeeper, but be careful what you wish for because she had no idea what she was getting herself into.
Even with all the madness, there's a bigger plot at play and it's just beyond Maddie's - and our - reach. There was a lot that didn't surprise me but one part I had my hand over my mouth and my eyes bugging out of my head because the story took a turn I did not see coming! We love a plot twist! Overall, I really enjoyed this read and it has invigorated me to read more! I can't wait for the sequel to be released, because we still have a lot of questions that need answering!
