Uncommon Criminals by Ally Carter (Review #139)

WARNING: SPOILER ALERT: IF YOU HAVE NOT GOTTEN THIS FAR IN THE HEIST SOCIETY SERIES, STOP NOW. DO NOT READ. FOR THE REVIEW ON BOOK 1, CHECK OUT HEIST SOCIETY.

"Katarina Bishop has worn a lot of labels in her short life. Friend. Niece. Daughter. Thief. But for the last two months she’s simply been known as the girl who ran the crew that robbed the greatest museum in the world. That’s why Kat isn’t surprised when she’s asked to steal the infamous Cleopatra Emerald so it can be returned to its rightful owners.

There are only three problems. First, the gem hasn’t been seen in public in thirty years. Second, since the fall of the Egyptian empire and the suicide of Cleopatra, no one who holds the emerald keeps it for long, and in Kat’s world, history almost always repeats itself. But it’s the third problem that makes Kat’s crew the most nervous and that is simply… the emerald is cursed.

Kat might be in way over her head, but she’s not going down without a fight. After all she has her best friend—the gorgeous Hale—and the rest of her crew with her as they chase the Cleopatra around the globe, dodging curses, realizing that the same tricks and cons her family has used for centuries are useless this time.

Which means, this time, Katarina Bishop is making up her own rules."

Review:
So, I read Heist Society when I was 16, so to put that into perspective about 7 years ago. I loved our little Kitty Kat then, and I continue to love her now. She has this inner turmoil about being a thief - in the first book she tried leaving the business altogether, and now she’s trying to be a Robin Hood type.

She’s trying to be a one woman show, and nobody's happy about it. Everyone seems to think it’s because she’s being selfish and addicted to the high of stealing but denying it to herself. I personally feel like she’s trying to protect those she loves from the dangers she’s around, despite them being thieves as well.

And Hale?? I said this about the first book and I’ll say it again, LET THE KAT AND HALE SHIP SAIL!!!!!! In HS, there were hints of them two, but nothing ever came of it. Now, from chapter one, the tension between them could be cut with a BUTTA KNIFE. And then Nick shows up. Of course. There always has to be a love triangle doesn’t there huh???? Gimme a break.

Now as for the con. I was very concerned when it was started and finished before we were even a third of the way through the book. And rightly so. The conners had been conned. And now they have to con the conner who conned them into conning. I mean it’s looking like a pretty impossible gig, especially when the gang may or may not be cursed.

It was everything I wanted it to be, a ragtag group of kids trying to pull off the most impossible job in history. It hit all the marks for me for a book of this genre and audience. It was sweet but daring, action-packed but also cunning. This was an enjoyable read and I’ve loved coming back to old favorites!

Lemme know your thoughts and feelings!!

Burn for Burn by Jenny Han & Siobhan Vivian (Review #29)

"Lillia has never had any problems dealing with boys who like her. Not until this summer, when one went too far. No way will she let the same thing happen to her little sister. Kate is tired of the rumors, the insults, the cruel jokes. It all goes back to one person - her ex-best friend - and she's ready to make her pay. Four years ago, Mary left Jar Island because of a boy. But she's not the same girl anymore. And she's ready to prove it to him. Three very different girls who want the same thing: sweet, sweet revenge. And they won't stop until they've each had a taste." Review: This book was FAN-TAS-TIC!! I am not for the petty popular girl books, and this is definitely not one of those books. The revenge you wish you got on the person who double-crossed you is finally let loose In one of the best and most inventive ways, and the ending left me jaw-dropped. This is a book everyone should have on their shelf.

Wicked Saints by Emily A. Duncan (Review #143)

"A girl named Nadya, who hears the whispers of the gods inside her head. A prince surrounded by desperate suitors and deadly assassins. A monster hidden behind pale, tortured eyes - and a smile that cuts like a knife. The paths of these characters becomes entwined during a centuries-long war filled with sinners and saints, magic and mystery, and a star-crossed romance that threatens to tip the scales between dark and light forever." Review: This was one of the best reads I’ve had in a long while. It DEVASTATED ME. BUT IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE. Nadya and Serefin were both complicated, messy, yet divine characters. Neither were in the right or wrong but both knew the endgame. I loved every second of it. These characters never did what was expected of them and I loved there growth from beginning to end. And MALACHIASZ?????? I shipped it so hard. Every twist and turn had me hoping he and Nadya would set sail. Their dynamic was so intriguing to me. They were enemies of a hig
