“Can you love the dark when you know what it hides?
Some things aren’t supposed to exist outside of our imagination.
Thirteen years ago, monsters emerged from the shadows and plunged Kierse’s world into a cataclysmic war of near-total destruction. The New York City she knew so well collapsed practically overnight.
In the wake of that carnage, the Monster Treaty was created. A truce...of sorts.
But tonight, Kierse―a gifted and fearless thief―will break that treaty. She’ll enter the Holly Library...not knowing it’s the home of a monster.
He’s charming. Quietly alluring. Terrifying. But he knows talent when he sees it; it’s just a matter of finding her price.
Now she’s locked into a dangerous bargain with a creature unlike any other. She’ll sacrifice her freedom. She’ll offer her skills. Together, they’ll put their own futures at risk.
But he’s been playing a game across centuries―and once she joins in, there will be
no escape..."
Review:
Now this is what I'm talking about!! Bring back good romantasies I beg!! I was in this, hook, line and sinker. It started off tame, a human thief breaking into the wrong house - one of a monster unknown. And he's hot as hell. Werk.
From the moment we start this journey, adventure and action are around every corner. Not only with Kierse and her thieving, but her life in the slums and the gangs and brothels that has become the norm now that the world is basically a monster apocalypse. If you thought that was as low as it could go, that's just the surface! Our girl goes underground too, where the monsters play.
I loved the mystery of what kind of monster Graves really is and what any of it has to do with Keirse. It was so fun and so engaging and at times quite steamyyyyyyy.
But it never took away from the plot, to be clear. If you're here for smut alone, the plot is the main character here (pun intended). It was just a roaring good time, and I'm frothing at the mouth to read the next one! Finally, a book I really sunk my teeth into. Love love loved it!
As always, let me know your own thoughts and feels in the comments below and I'll catch you on the next one! This next year I'm gonna be in my reading era again, I can feel it!
